Record GCSE results for Tameside

Tameside pupils have registered the borough’s best ever GCSE results.

The trend of significant improvement at GCSE level in Tameside continues with this year's provisional results set at just over 74 per cent of pupils gaining five or more grades at A* to C, an increase of 4% on last year. While 50 per cent achieved five or more A* to C including English and Maths, up 4 per cent on last year.

Youngsters across Tameside secondary schools were celebrating with a number of schools improving their very high standards of achievement and improving the number of their pupils achieving five or more grades at A*-C. This year notable successes were recorded at Mossley Hollins Link to External Website, Alder Link to External Website, Astley Link to External Website, Hyde Technology School Link to External Website, Fairfield Link to External Website, Audenshaw School Link to External Website, Droylsden Academy Link to External Website and St Thomas More Link to External Website.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning, Cllr Gerald Cooney said: “I am delighted with the progress being made by children in all our schools. These outstanding GCSE results, our best ever, really put Tameside on the map as the place where all children can receive a first class education. I would like to congratulate all the parents, pupils and teachers for their hard work. Well done to all! Tameside keeps going from strength to strength.”

Jim Taylor, Executive Director for Services for Children and Young People, added: “The outstanding results this year are testimony to the hard work of parents, teachers and pupils. Improved teaching and learning, flexible curriculum pathways, improved targeting of underachieving pupils and mentoring are key factors in this success. Our aspirations for Tameside are extremely high and the local authority will continue to work with all schools to reach even higher levels of achievement in the future. Excellent progress is being made with standards in English and Mathematics. It is really pleasing to see that all parts of the borough provide an excellent education for all of the children in Tameside.”
