Teens Learn to Respect The Greens
Teens Learn to Respect The Greens
Press Release Date: 18th August 2010
Respect was the name of the game when young and old learned about each other’s worlds in Droylsden.
Teenagers were invited to the bowling greens at the Floral Park, Cemetery Road, on Sunday, 15th August, so that they could find out how much the facility is valued by the community and especially the people who play there.
In return, the youngsters were able to confide in their hosts and explain some of the adolescent frustrations they encounter.
The get-together was organised by Droylsden District Assembly in conjunction with police community support officers
as part of their ongoing scheme to provide young people with constructive activities. Monthly discos at the Concorde have proved extremely popular and when they are held anti-social behaviour virtually disappears.
By introducing teenagers to the bowlers, it is hoped that they will realise how important the greens are and that there will be much less vandalism.

Cllr Kevin Welsh, Executive Member for Co-ordination Services, said: “I think Droylsden District Assembly and the police are doing a wonderful job and the officials deserve a great deal of praise. This really deserves to succeed.
“I’m sure the youngsters will have been surprised at the level of skill involved in bowls and I hope there will be sufficient interest to start up a team playing in a junior league.”
