(Children and Families)

The Executive Member is responsible for all matters relating to the Council’s affairs in respect of the services for children and families brief. As such, the Executive Member is responsible for liaising with other Members of the Executive Cabinet, particularly where matters within the brief affect other aspects of Council business or affect the Borough.

The Executive Member is responsible for ensuring appropriate consultation with partners and the community on matters within the children and families brief.

Terms of Reference

  1. To have the statutory lead, monitor and oversight and where necessary take decisions about policy/strategy and provision regarding functions supporting children, young people, and families including:-
    • Children’s centres & extended schools and associated services.
    • Youth services (incl. Youth Offending Team & teenage pregnancy)
    • Connexions.
    • Children with disabilities
    • Support services (incl. early intervention, behaviour, respite, communication, sensory & autism)
    • Safeguarding (incl. Local Safeguarding Children's Board).
    • Children's social care.
    • Looked after children.
    • Adoption and fostering
  2. To lead on the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership Trust and support of the Tameside Local Safeguarding Board.
  3. To have the statutory lead, monitor and oversight and where necessary take decisions about policy/strategy and provision regarding Equalities.
  4. To lead the changes required following the implementation of the Health Bill (Autumn 2010), and the Public Health White Paper (December 2010) as they relate to Children’s Services.
