The Junior section of Waterloo Primary School in Ashton-under-Lyne reopened as normal today following a fire on Sunday January 20.
However, the nursery section will not reopen until tomorrow (Wednesday) at the earliest and it is expected that the infants won't be able to return to the school until next Monday (January 28).
The fire started in an external shed at about 5.55pm. It then spread to the main school building, causing damage to part of the roof, a length of corridor and two toilets as well as extensive smoke and water damage.
A clean-up operation is in place and the school is posting updates on its website at www.waterloo.tameside.sch.uk as well as on notice boards outside the school and in the surrounding locality.
Headteacher Lesley Ironmonger said: "This has been a huge blow to the school but we are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum and get back up and running as soon as possible."
The cause of the fire is under police investigation.
