Information For Parents Regarding In-year School Transfers
Moving house
It is generally in a child’s best interests to remain at the same school, however if a house move makes the journey too long you should request a transfer form from your child’s Tameside school. If you are moving into Tameside, forms can be obtained from the School Admissions Team Tel: 0161 342 3214/4068/3204 or you can download a Secondary School Transfer Form 139.42 KB
.
If your child is in Year 10 or 11 another school may not match the subjects that your child is studying for GCSE examinations.
If your child is experiencing difficulties
Children may be unhappy at school for a number of reasons. It is important that any issues are discussed openly with staff in order to solve any problems. Transferring schools does not usually benefit a child.
The transfer process
From September 2010 all in-year transfers will be coordinated by the local authority where the child lives.
If you live in Tameside and want to transfer your child to another school, you must apply through Tameside Council even if the school is in another area. Transfer forms are available from any Tameside high school or can be downloaded from this page. Please complete the form fully and send to the address on the form. This cannot be done electronically. Please check with the school that you are applying for if they need additional information such as proof of baptism for some Roman Catholic schools. If you do not provide this at the time of application, this could slow down the application process or result in you not being allocated a place at your preferred school.
Parents will receive one offer of a school place through Tameside Council.
