1. That the Council should review its strategy for communicating its vision for supporting children with special educational needs to all stakeholders who may have a range of abilities, for example the production of a pamphlet version of the "Matching Provision to Need" document may be helpful to parents We are already working on this - we have produced parent guides from the main document Claire Bibby March 2006
2. That any new material produced takes into account those parents whose first language may not be English Material is produced in other languages on request. This is on our Equalities agenda Claire Bibby Ongoing
3. That this Panel be informed of the outcome of consultation with stakeholders about the new system of delegated funding for special educational needs provision Report to be finalised by Easter Claire Bibby end March 2005
4. That the Special Educational Needs Service continues to explore every avenue for the early identification of and provision for children with special educational needs. The Regional Advisor for SEN is supporting this Claire Bibby Ongoing
5. The service should consider whether it is succeeding in communicating the advantages of meeting children's special educational needs through the current strategies and seek every opportunity to improve this in line with recommendation 9 below Work continues with the SEN subgroup on the SEN statutory framework Claire Bibby Ongoing
6. That the Education Psychology Service may wish to review how it consults with parents during their involvement with the Service This will be an activity in next Business Plan Nick Caws March 2006
7. That the Special Educational Needs Service works with health professionals to develop the suggested areas for improvement as detailed in paragraph 11.14 This will be an activity in the next Business Plan Steve Openshaw December 2005
8. That the Parent Partnership considers taking an expanded role to ensure that the intent of the new Special Educational Needs Policy is clearly communicated and the provision available at early intervention is explained fully This is a recommendation of the MLD Review. 9.That the Council should continue to look for every opportunity to communicate its reasons for delivering special educational needs provision outside the Statutory Assessment Process See No. 5 Claire Bibby Ongoing

That the SEN Service monitors and publishes the outcomes of SEN policy, concentrating on early intervention and provision for pupils under Action and Action Plus, in order that the success of this approach can be clearly demonstrated to both teachers and parents.
