Trees and Privets

Council Tree Works Programme – December 2023.
The Council’s Arboriculture Team are really busy dealing with urgent health and safety work arising from recent storms and from Ash Dieback.  Therefore planned maintenance and pruning work has been put on hold for the time being and the team are only doing urgent health and safety work.  As soon as the team have dealt with safety work they will return to the planned maintenance programme.  We apologise for any delays in delivering work scheduled however we will get back on to the programme as soon as we can.

Our Service Charter for this area is as follows:

The council has a routine programme of inspecting all trees on the highway and other public land. The programme is aimed at ensuring that trees are not only safe but also that they are not causing obstructions to traffic signs and traffic lights etc.

  • We will inspect all trees on the highway and other public land e.g. grass verges on a regular inspection programme
  • We will investigate complaints of trees encroaching the highway, pavement or street furniture within 48 hours
  • We will advise customers who request us to deal with dangerous or overhanging trees how quickly the matter will be dealt with when the issue cannot be resolved within 5 working days
  • We will make safe any dangerous trees within 24 hours e.g. put signs up, fence off etc. if the problem can't be dealt with by the Authority and needs specialist attention
