How do I obtain a permit to deposit a skip on the highway?
Skip companies wishing to apply for a permit to deposit a skip on the highway have two options
- Apply for a permit on an ad-hoc basis
you can complete the Ad Hoc Application Form 21.43 KB
and post back to us with your payment, a copy of your Public Liability Insurance (minimum £5,000,000) and Waste Disposal Licence.
Skips should not be placed on the highway until confirmation that the appropriate documentation and fee have been received and permit actually issued. - Apply to go on our Register
you can complete the Register Application Form 62.73 KB
here and post back to us with your payment plus a copy of your Public Liability Insurance (minimum £5,000,000) and Waste Disposal Licence. Once on our Register, you can then apply for permits on-line or over the telephone.
Why apply to go on the register?
Companies are invited to join the council's registers, which run from April to March yearly.
Once you are on the Register, you can obtain your permits automatically on-line or by telephone. The annual cost is £60.

How much does it cost?
- To go on the skip register the fee is £60 per year.
- Each permit costs £10.00 per 14 days.
- Each Ad Hoc permit will cost £60.00 for a maximum of 14 days.
- Charge for no permit, if on register £20.00 plus £25.00 admin fee.
- Charge for no permit if not on register £120.00.
What are the Regulations?
How long does a Permit last for?
Your permit will last for a maximum of 14 days from the date of issue.

View today's list of authorised skip permits.
How can I make a complaint regarding location of a skip?
Skips must not be sited on a footpath.
Any complaints about the location or safety of skips should be reported to us immediately by using the contact details below. Non urgent complaints about skips can be logged on the online complaints system and this will be dealt with accordingly.
