Manchester Camerata Proms in Hyde Park
Saturday evening sees the return of 'Proms in Hyde Park ' as Manchester Camerata Orchestra once again take centre stage to perform an extensive programme of popular classical music including various Russian ballet favourites and a selection of opera greats. The evening will finish with a spectacular firework display set to some of the traditional 'Last Night of the Proms' flag-waving classics including Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Pomp and Circumstance.
Becky Want
The evening will be hosted by BBC Radio Manchester presenter Becky Want. Over the last 15 years, Becky has established herself as one of the most prominent television and radio presenters in Manchester and the North West region. She spent her early years treading the boards and her twenties as a daytime presenter both on Piccadilly Radio and Key 103. This lead to the achievement of her long-held ambition to join Granada Television as a presenter. Since the mid '90s, she has presented both regionally and on the network including series on travel, health, fashion and education.
For the last four years, Becky has been a regular face on BBC1's regional current affairs programme Inside Out. She also presents the afternoon show from 2.00 – 5.00 p.m. on BBC Radio Manchester, as well as presenting their 'Retail Therapy' show on Saturday mornings from 9.00 a.m.
Kristyna Myles
Kristyna Myles will be returning to provide pre-show entertainment from 6.30pm until 7.15pm. Kristyna is a 25 year old singer-songwriter based in Manchester who is already being described as one of the hottest singer-songwriter properties in Britain today. She performed alongside Chris De Burgh on his European Tour and supported Mick Hucknall on three UK concert dates.
Nick Garret

2009 sees the Tameside Proms in the Park debut of Nick Garrett. Nick Garrett studied piano and voice at Trinity College of Music, graduating with honours, a Wolfson Foundatin Award and The Wilfred Greenhouse Pirze for Oratorio and Cantata. He is one of the UK’s rising international stars and his reputation as an operatic soloist has grown from acclaimed performances in major productions at opera houses such as the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and the Opera National de Paris. He has now performed over thirty-five major roles worldwide. 2006 saw Nick performing the role of Sagredo in the World Premiere of 'Galileo' by Michael Jarrell at the Grand Theatre Geneva and Laurent in "Therese Raquin" by Tobias Picker at the Linbury Theatre at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
This year Nick was back at the Royal Opera House performing the roles of Cinderella´s Prince and The Wolf in the Steven Sondheim musical "Into The Woods" at the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden prior to performing it in Manchester at The Lowry Theatre.
Nick has simultaneously enjoyed broader appeal as the original bass baritone and the creative force behind the multi platinum selling opera band, "Amici forever". He has also recorded for Chandos, Sony/BMG and Litmus and also composed and written music for many various events including London Fashion Week and the Horse of the Year Show.
Nick was honored to have been asked to premiere The Schools Festival Song written by film composer Ennio Morricone for the Manchester International Festival and accompanied by 8,000 Young Voices.
With the very successful release of his anticipated self-titled CD Nick showcases his versatility as a solo recording artist, composer and pianist.
Members of the public are invited to bring their own picnics to the event and make themselves at home in the beautiful surroundings of Hyde Park. There will also be food available from a variety of event caterers. This is an outdoor event - please dress appropriately for the weather. Alcohol is permitted at the event this year with the exception of alcopops (please see full terms and conditions below).
Chair Hire
For people who haven’t got their own chairs, this year there will be the opportunity to hire a plastic foldaway chair at a price of £1.00 each. Chairs will be available to hire in the park from 5.00 p.m. when gates open.

Due to the close proximity of the event, tickets are no longer available online. However, tickets are available at the Tourist Information Office, Council Offices, Ashton-under-Lyne until 1.00pm on Saturday 25th July. Tickets will also be available at each of the Park gate entrances from 5.00pm on the day of the event.
Terms and Conditions for Entry:
- Ticket admits one person
- The event organisers reserve the right to refuse admission to any person
- Children under the age of 14 are not permitted unless accompanied by an adult
- The special circumstances of this event allow for a reasonable quantity of alcohol to be brought into the Park (only beers, wines and spirits are permitted). No alcopops
- Bottles of wine will be permitted but please do not bring any other glass items, barbeques, flaming torches, personal fireworks, sparklers, gazebos or dogs (with the exception of guide dogs)
- Smoke effects, strobe lighting, lasers and loud noises may be used at the event
- This is an outdoor event - please dress appropriately for the weather
- A designated event car park will be located on Park Road (cost £2)
