Image of Wayne KayAs well as this, Sunday will see music and entertainment from around the world bringing the park alive for another fantastic free day out for the whole family. There will also be a massive free activity area including face painting, henna hand painting, clay modeling and lots lots more. If that wasn't enough to keep you occupied, there will also be a massive funfair and a craft market.

Presenter of 103.6 FM Tameside Radio's Afternoon Drive, Wayne Kay will be comparing the main stage throughout the day.

Local Ashton lad Wayne, 31, has been a singer and comedian all his adult life with stints on commercial radio across the North West.

Wayne brings a unique style and humour to afternoons on Tameside Radio. "I'm delighted to be hosting the 'Party in the Park' at this year's Splendid Weekend event. I'm a huge fan of Alexander O'Neal and with everything else going on in the Park I think it will be a great day out. "

Main Stage Programme

Accidental Gentlemen

Image of Accidental GentlemenDrawing on influences such as Bloc Party, Snow Patrol and Artic Monkeys, Accidental Gentlemen are a 4 piece Indie/Rock band from Tameside.

Having formed late 2007 and suffered many line-up changes, they now feel as if they’re ready for anything you metaphorically throw at them. A loyal fan base now follows them around as they gig to get their name out and about on the streets of Tameside and Manchester.

Consisting of Paul James on lead guitar, Brad Wilde on rhythm guitar/vocals, Brad Whittaker on bass and finally Chris Slack on drums, these are not a band that leaves the image of rock and roll to your imagination, as they provide a show oozing with professionalism and energy.

Whether you choose to listen to all the same mainstream rock and roll or even be the one in the know with upcoming bands, these are one you need to know.

As of now, the band are currently writing songs and recording, hopefully to release an EP in the near future.

ScythiaScythia Unplugged

Formed September 2005 by friends Marc and Matthew, Scythia began with a recycled plywood electric guitar from the back room, an incomplete drum kit and no amps. Bass player Monty was added to the line up before the first rehearsal, Josh was brought in as lead guitarist after a few weeks, and rhythm guitarist Greenie also tagged along for the ride. By Christmas, all gear was bought and in January 2006, the band began rehearsing properly.

Six months later, the band entered the studio for the first time to record their debut EP of six cover songs. The EP's title (Not So Smoothed Out, Slap Happy) gave a nod to the title of Green Day's first LP, and also referenced the rough, unpolished nature of the recordings. The EP was released in September 2006, and was well received by most at the time.

Shortly after this release, Greenie left the band due to other commitments, leaving the current line up. Later in the year, Scythia used one of their cover songs from this EP ('Buck Rogers' - Feeder) to enter XFM Manchester's rock school competition; an entry that gained them some airplay and a top 10 finish out of over 90 bands.

In early 2007, Scythia took part in the Royal Northern College of Music scheme 'Sound Ideas' to kick start their production of original material. Eight sessions with 'producer' Kay Michael resulted in five songs completed, including 1st single 'Sky Blue', contemplative 2nd single 'Lonely Among Them' and live favourite 'Shoebox'. The band also gained a headlining slot at the Manchester Academy 4 through this collaboration.

Now, new original songs are coming together faster than ever, and Scythia have started to build a reputation for their energetic live performances. Their debut LP is scheduled for release in late 2008/early 2009.
