Tameside Sports Awards 2009/10

Criteria & Guidance

Judging is based on the evidence that is provided using the following criteria and guidance.

Coach of the Year

  1. Delivery of at least one coaching session per week in the borough. Please list when and where the coaching takes place.
  2. Current coaching qualifications and additional personal development undertaken please list.
  3. Mentoring and developing other coaches. Please give evidence.
  4. Evidence of supporting increase in sports participation, please use examples.
  5. Evidence of improving performers and /or team. Please use examples.
  6. How does the coach make a contribution to the wider community? Please use examples.
  7. Key achievements within the last 12 months
  8. Is there any additional evidence or information that supports that the nominee should become ‘Coach of the Year’?

Unsung Hero

  1. Please describe using examples how the Unsung Hero has made a difference using the following headings:

a. Role they have played
b. Dedication to their role, participants and the wider club environment
c. Contribution they make (Non financial)
d. Going ‘Beyond the call of duty’ or doing ‘Over and above’ the norm
e. Impact on the community/clubs/sport or individuals

Volunteer of the year

  1. Length of time the individual has been a volunteer? (This should be a minimum of 6 months)
  2. What role does the volunteer play? Please identify where the volunteering takes place, what role is played and how many hours are contributed.
  3. Demonstrate that the volunteer has a regular commitment to their role.
  4. Please give examples of how their voluntary work benefits the wider community.
  5. What personal development does the volunteer undertake? Please give examples such as qualifications, relevant volunteering schemes, training,
  6. Any involvement at external events (eg World Sport events)
  7. Describe what your nominee does in ‘going the extra mile’ and any additional achievements.

Rising Star - Sports Achiever of the Year

  1. Sport and/or sports played
  2. Level the nominee is competing at
  3. Achievements in the last 12 months giving examples of the steps taken to improve performance.
  4. Demonstrate the nominee’s dedication to training using examples of where they have gone beyond the norm in ensuring they progress.
  5. Please describe any other key achievements or contribution to the wider sporting community.
  6. What is it about the nominee that you find inspiring?

Rising Star - Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year

  1. Sport and/or sports played
  2. Level the nominee is competing at
  3. What barriers and/or limitation can the nominees disability present, and how have they been overcome?
  4. Achievements in the last 12 months giving examples of the steps taken to improve performance.
  5. Demonstrate the nominee’s dedication to training using examples of where they have gone beyond the norm in ensuring they progress.
  6. Please describe any other key achievements or contribution to the wider sporting community.

Club of the Year
