Coaches In Schools
Coaches in Schools
In recent years the Tameside Sports Services Team has expanded from a staff of six to 38 and the backbone of the service is the nationally recognised Coaches in Schools Scheme. The service plays a valuable role in achieving the council’s aim by successfully impacting upon cross issues such as, social inclusion, community cohesion and the promotion of physical activity to improve health.
The Coaches in Schools Scheme comprises of a team of professional coaches with a variety of sports coaching qualifications. The team takes full responsibility for the delivery of games, dance and athletics lessons in primary schools providing the school with additional expertise and allowing the teacher flexibility to undertake curriculum development. All lessons are planned and structured in line with the National Curriculum for PE and pupil assessments are carried out at the end of a 6-week module of work. Following curriculum delivery the coach remains at the school to deliver extra curricular clubs and forms an integral element of the school ability to link successfully with community sports clubs and organisations.
