Talented Tameside

As the team behind UK Athletics, Norwich Union is supporting athletics in the UK from playground to podium, making it easier for athletes to reach their full potential and for the next generation to get active, stay healthy and learn key life skills.

The Campaign is trying to make local sport a winner in all regions of the UK by giving sport initiatives funding. The funding is broken down into three awards:

  • Bronze Award (£1,000)
  • Silver Award (£12,500)
  • Gold Award (£50,000)

Tameside Talent submitted a proposal outlining a strategy that aims to ensure that talented young people in Tameside are identified and have the opportunity to reach their full potential in PE and Sport. The strategy brings together programmes and expertise from local schools, sports colleges, sports development and community clubs.

Tameside Talent was one of 27 initiatives in the North West region that was short listed for the silver award.

Through July, August, September all 27 initiatives had to gain as many votes as possible with the initiative .The project with the most votes winning the silver award.

Tameside Talent were successful in receveing the most votes in the North West with thanks to council workers, teachers and pupils from across Tameside Schools and as a result have won £12,500.

We will now be competing head to head with all the other regional silver winners to win the Gold Award of £50,000. The national award is being decided by a panel of independent judges consisting of Olympic Gold medalists athletes Sally Gunnell and Darren Campbell. The winner will be announced at the British Athletics Writers' Association (BAWA) Dinner on 27th October in London.
