The Greater Manchester Youth Games, now in its 20th year was host to over 3000 children from all over Greater Manchester. Team Tameside, sponsored by New Charter Trust, once again, brought home the medals in style!

Held over 4 sites, Wright Robinson Sports College, Belle Vue, Manchester Aquatics Centre and Sport City, Tameside were represented by over 250 young people in 13 different sports, with teams made up from local high schools and sports clubs.

The games also included events for young people with a disability playing football and athletics. Tameside, yet again entered more teams/young people than any other Borough in Greater Manchester.

Spectators from all over Tameside flocked to the Games on Saturday 12 July to view the teams and urge them on in the competitions.

VIP's from our kind sponsors New Charter Trust, Tameside's Lord Mayor, Councillor Jack Davies, Assistant Executive Director of Cultural and Customer Services Adam Allen, Councillor Martin Wareing and head of Sports Services Mark Tweedie all supported Team Tameside on the day. Julie Hardman from New Charter Trust said ' The Greater Manchester Youth Games was a huge success for Team Tameside and all the young people did our Borough proud. We are very lucky to be supporting such an event and seeing our future sporting stars excel in their chosen sport.'

Bhagvati Mistry. Borough Team Organiser said 'This event takes months of preparation, not only with the young people training, but without the help and support from local schools and local voluntary club coaches we would not have a Team. Team Tameside are renouned for their dedication at the Games and once again upheld our reputation of Fair play throughout. The young people of Tameside have done the Borough proud and I am sure that this experience will stay with them for a very long time to come.'
