Education Charities and Grants to Sporting Individuals
Education Charities and Grants to Sporting Individuals
Application for Financial Assistance
There is a maximum grant of £400 per individual in each financial year. (1st April – 31st March)
Information for Applicants
- Applications will only be considered from sports performers who are under the age of nineteen, reside in the Tameside area and are in full time primary, secondary or further education. For representation in school and club related initiatives, the applicant will only be required to attend a Tameside School or 6th Form College. In the case of sports for people with a disability, the age group is extended to those who are twenty- one years and under.
- Evidence of financial need will be an important factor when considering applications. Applicants will be notified of the amount of grant awarded following approval.
- Grants will only be directed towards the costs of travel, equipment, entry fees, specialist coaching and accommodation. Expenses detailed on the application form must relate to the applicant and not to accompanying adults or parents. Evidence of relevant costs in the form of written information from the event organisers, or invoices following the event must be provided before any funds can be released.
- The applicant must either be selected for regional or national event(s) in order to represent the county, region or country, or have exceptional ability, which gives them entry to high-level competition. Evidence of attendance or selection must be sent to the council as soon as available, along with a letter of endorsement from club/development group.
- Grants will only be given to support individual achievements and not for teams or clubs in Tameside. Such groups should apply for support from Tameside MBC’s Sports Club Development Fund or Small Grants for Voluntary Clubs.
- The application must show the support of the head teacher and, if relevant, the support of a club official by way of a letter of endorsement.
- The council reserves the right to reclaim all or part of the grant, if conditions are not complied with.
- The support of Tameside MBC should be recognised in an appropriate manner.
- Applicants who are successful in applying for the grant will be asked to submit a case study showing what impact the financial aid has had on their sporting development. Case studies submitted may be used through council marketing and communications and will support the promotion of the applicants achievements.
- All applications are subject to available funding.
