Sport and Physical Activity Alliance
Sport and Physical Activity Alliance - Tameside
The Government has established plans for increasing participation in sports and physical activities for everyone across the country in efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of the population. Improvements in Tameside's provision for sport will expand on the network of clubs, coaches and volunteers and ensure that those with talent have the chance to be successful. In short to help people start, stay and succeed in sport.
Tameside wishes to develop its Community Sports Network through the strategic leadership offered by a Sports and Physical Activity Association (SPAA) that brings together key partners from across sport, health, education, community safety and the local voluntary and community sectors.
National strategies will shape Tameside strategies and its important that we consider linkages and shared issues coming from initiatives of national agencies such as Sport England, Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Department for Education and Skills, Department of Health and others. Tameside values the support of the Greater Manchester Sports Partnership who share the same aspirations of maintaining and improving the excellent provision for young people and starting to address improved physical activity patterns for adults.
The work of the SPAA will positively contribute to the delivery of the Council's Community Strategy and present an opportunity for a range of partner agencies and community groups to share and positively act upon agreed policy development, planning and delivery of actions.
The Sport and Physical Activity Alliance has three aims:
- To bring together key representatives and advocates for sport and physical activity in order to promote the value of healthy lifestyles and offer a co-ordinated approach across Tameside.
- To provide leadership , vision and a single voice for all those concerned with the provision of opportunities for physical activity and sport in Tameside.
- To use participation in physical activity and sport to reduce health inequalities and improve positive lifestyles across the communities of Tameside.
