Tameside Council is delighted to announce details of its 9th annual Stalybridge Splash event which will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th May 2009 in Armentieres Square, Stalybridge and surrounding streets. The main event will start at 12 noon with pre-show entertainment on the main stage from 11.00am.
This massive event promises to bring Stalybridge Town Centre and Armentieres Square to life with a fantastic programme of colourful street theatre, free activity workshops, music and dance for the whole family. The stage will be located in Armentieres Square and you can enjoy music and dance routines throughout the afternoon.
On the streets, watch out for the promenading statues and mountain gorillas who look and behave like real gorillas, whilst an enormous, animatronic, smoke-breathing Dragon will be led through the streets by the Goblin Queen and her musical entourage.
We welcome back Jon Hicks with his fascinating upside down, revolving, 6 foot tall paintings executed with immaculate timing to music and the Black Eagles will be entertaining the crowds with their powerful and graceful acrobatic dance routines set to lively African music.
Have a go at the static athletic challenge, skipping and hoola hooping with the Tameside Sports Development team. All this plus strolling artists to keep you entertained all afternoon.
Free craft activitity workshops will be on offer with hat making, flag making, fridge magnet making and free face and henna hand painting will also be available. All you artists out there will have the opportunity show off your creative talents on our huge canvas painting screen.
For all you children out there, a large funfair will be operating on Tesco car park and in Armentières Square throughout the day with all the rides, amusements and slides you could possibly want! Trinity Street will also be filled with inflatable slides and rides! Adults can browse around the charity stalls whilst enjoyng music from local brass bands and Holy Trinity Church.
For the health and safety of everyone attending this year’s event, organisers would like visitors to be aware that a strict alcohol ban will once again be enforced throughout the town centre. Anyone carrying alcohol will be asked to leave the event arena immediately.
