Customer Services
We pride ourselves on listening and giving people plenty of opportunities to have their say.
First 100% Transactional Website
Tameside was the first council in the country to offer 100% of its services electronically. Offering residents and local businesses the opportunity to find all kinds of information about the council and local community, to order services and even pay bills, the website currently achieves more than 500,000 hits per week. Its appearance was updated last year following an online poll and it has been designed for maximum accessibility.
Customer First Centres in Libraries
All 15 libraries in our borough have In Touch information centres where library staff, supported by our interactive website, can help people contact the council or access our services. In addition, our five main libraries have a Customer First centre with dedicated staff whose aim is to provide a single point of contact with the council, whatever a person's comment, complaint or enquiry.
District Assemblies
Introduced in 1998,Tameside has eight district assemblies which form part of the fabric of our council. They are made up of committees of local councillors, together with representatives from voluntary and community groups, residents and tenants groups, local businesses and secondary school pupils.Their role is to discuss local issues and voice local views before councillors make their decisions.
Consultation and Communications
In addition to consultations about specific plans or projects, we always welcome local people's views on any subject. We keep people up to date with council information via a range of publications aimed at different groups of people, including our website. Having identified a need to speak directly with young people, for example, we launched Intrigue, a magazine packed with ideas and information for teenagers.
Councillors' Annual Reports
Demonstrating their accountability to local people,Tameside councillors now publish their own annual reports. Available as printed documents or on our website, the councillors set out what they have been doing for local people during the last year.
