Introduction
Tameside Council's recycling exhibition stand asks everyone:
"Have you the “art for recycling?"
Using a variety of materials which can and should be recycled - and showing what can be produced from them - the stand features an eye-catching mosaic.
It also poses a moral dilemma to every visitor:
"Do you recycle as much as you should?"
The People's Priorities
Recycling has been a key part of Tameside Council's work for many years and improving the environment is one of its four People's Priorities.
Agreed following extensive consultations with local people, the People's Priorities are those issues of most concern. These are:
- Cutting Crime and Disorder
- Improving the Environment
- Improving Lifelong Learning
- Creating Good Quality Jobs
Alongside two additional issues - a healthy population and supportive communities - the People's Priorities form the basis of Tameside's Community Strategy, 2003 - 2006.
The strategy was approved following one of Tameside's largest ever consultation exercises. More than 3,000 people took part - through informal discussions, stands in supermarkets, meetings at most local business, community and voluntary groups, consultation workshops and a postal questionnaire.
