Insurance

Are all care providers covered by accident insurance?

As part of the registration requirements all care providers including childminders, playgroups, out of school clubs, holiday clubs and full day care facilities, have to be covered by appropriate and comprehensive public liability insurance. Many providers use the same insurance companies which have a specialism in this field.

The certificate of insurance has to be shown to an inspector when the provider is inspected each year to prove that it is current and must be displayed on the premises whilst car is being provided.

If you are concerned ask to see the insurance certificate and ask the provider to explain what it covers.

If your care provider is planning to transport your child in their motor vehicle, for instance when going to the park, they must be insured for business use and should use car seats, booster cushions or appropriate restraints depending upon the age of the child in line with car safety regulations.

If minibuses or coaches are used they should be equipped with seat belts.
