Relatives Caring for Children
Does my mother/sister/brother who cares for my child have to be registered?
Current legislation allows relatives who care for a child to do so without having to be registered, in fact The Care Standards Act 2000 specifically prohibits relatives from registering.
However the Working Tax Credit
is only payable to registered provision and the guidance issued with this Act indicates that Grandparents who wish to offer childcare, which is paid for by the Tax Credit, should be registered with Ofsted.
Ofsted states that if you are caring for children who are closely related to you, including granchildren, then this is not considered to be childcare and as such will not be registered.
