Helpful Hints on Applying for and Receiving Funding
- Read the application form carefully (take a photocopy of the blank form to practice on).
- Make sure you have sufficient time to prepare your application.
- Answer the questions asked on the application form, don't waffle.
- Keep your answers relevant to the question asked.
- If it says, "don't leave any boxes blank", don't because it will only be sent back to you for completion and this will delay the process.
- If the funding scheme has criteria, make sure you project fulfils the criteria.
- Write neatly and in black ink (so it will be clearer when it is photocopied).
- Do your homework, get estimates, make shopping lists, cost the project and do a budget.
- Make your application as 'professional' as possible.
- Proof read the application form (ask someone else to do this for you) to check spellings, grammar and clarity of the application.
- Always submit the supporting evidence requested.
- Don't think that it will not matter if you do not.
- Send the information, it does matter.
- Your application will only be delayed if you omit to send supporting information.
- Always take a photocopy for your reference.
- Always say 'Thank You'.
- If the project needs monitoring and evaluating make sure that you begin the monitoring at the start, this will make the process much easier.
