Inclusion Grant

What is it?

The grant is available for children who have learning difficulties or general developmental delay who are attending settings in the non-maintained sector (private day nurseries, pre school playgroups childminders or out of school provision). It can be used to fund extra sessions, provide additional staffing, resources and equipment in order to include children in non-maintained childcare or early education settings

If language or behaviour is the prime cause for concern then it would be appropriate to consider applying for support from Communication, Language and Autistic Spectrum Support (CLASS) or Behaviour for Learning & Inclusion Service (BLIS) Outreach Service.

 Who is eligible to apply?

Children, who:

  • Attend a private day nursery, pre school playgroup, childminder or out of school club
  • Have significant identified learning difficulties/disabilities
  • Have documented evidence of action taken e.g. an Individual Education or Activity Plan that has been set and reviewed once, where appropriate
  • or Have evidence of developmental delay

 What is the process to apply?

The completed application needs to be accompanied by the following documents, where available:

  • The child’s Individual Education or Activity Plan with evidence of its review-including discussion with parents/carers.
  • Evidence of Educational Psychologist /Area SENCO involvement e.g. an Action Plan or Report
  • Evidence of delay in at least one area of development and/or other record of any assessments e.g. Portage Checklist, Schedule of Growing Skills etc

 Other information:

  • An initial visit to the setting may be made to discuss the application
  • Setting staff will be responsible for informing parents and arranging meetings when considered appropriate
  • Your Area SENCO/Early Years Officer/Portage Worker is available to advise/assist with the applicationYou will be informed in writing if your application has been successful, usually within 3 weeks of receipt
