Nursery Education Grant
Who Can Apply?
Private day nurseries, pre-schools, playgroups, Sure Start Centres, independent schools and accredited childminders included in the Tameside Nursery Education Directory of Providers. Those included in the Directory are registered to provide nursery education. Providers can apply for the grant for children who attend their setting from the term after a child's 3rd birthday. Providers cannot apply for the grant for a child who also attends a local authority nursery class attached to a primary school.
How Much Can You Apply For?
The maximum grant for the financial year 2008/09 (ie from April 2008 to March 2009) is £1,557 per annum.
What Can You Spend It On?
The grant must be spent on providing a free part-time nursery education place for an eligible child. A part-time place is defined as a 2½ hour session, up to 5 sessions a week for a minimum of 11 weeks per term, or 38 weeks per annum.
The part-time nursery education place should be offered free of charge or by reducing or reimbursing fees by the cost of the nursery education place. The provider can use the difference between the value of the nursery education grant and the cost of a nursery education place to improve and support the nursery education provision in the setting.
