TESSA (Tameside Education Supply Staff Agency)
The Tameside Education Supply Staff Agency was launched in January 2005 in order to provide quality supply staff to all schools within the Tameside Borough and unlike private agencies is a non-profit agency.
Register with TESSA
We currently require Supply Teachers for assignments across Tameside and are looking to register qualified teachers across all key stages to work on short and long term assignments. We are particularly interested in teachers qualified to teach KS2 and all secondary subjects.
You will need to hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have recent teaching experience in a school or evidence of recent completion of initial teacher training.
If you are accepted onto our register you will be paid in accordance with statutory/council rates on a weekly basis, be able to make contributions to your pension and have the opportunity to gain quality professional development.

It is important that you read through the guidance notes before you start your application. Application forms that are not complete or that contain gaps will be returned. We cannot shortlist without all sections being fully completed and gaps explained. We do not accept Curriculum Vitaes (CVs). All information must be provided on the application form.

TESSA Pre-recruitment Checks
For your application to be considered, you must satisfy the following criteria:
- Two professional references (one must be from the last school at which you worked)
- Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau
(CRB) Disclosure (to be administered through Tameside Council) - Evidence of registration of the General Teaching Council (GTC)
- Asylumn and Immigration check (to confirm you are entitled to work in the UK)
- Satisfactory Occupational Health check
- Evidence of UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Qualifications check
- Proof of identity
- Proof of address
Completion of the above will allow us to assess your application to join TESSA as all teachers working are vetted to a high standard.
The Recruitment Process
- Completed application forms received by TESSA are shortlisted and checked to make sure you meet the person specification.
- We will then request references. If both of these are of the standard we require, we will contact you to arrange further checks to be carried out and to arrange an appointment at the Council offices, Ashton-under-Lyne.
- Once all the checks are completed, we will assess your suitability to work with children.
- A decision is then made as to whether or not your application is successful. We will notify you of any decision made.
Teacher's Superannuation Scheme
Any work undertaken through TESSA will count as pensionable service. You will automatically become a member of the Teacher’s Pension Scheme. If you do not wish to be in the TPS, you can opt out.

The TESSA Team
The TESSA team are based at the Council offices in Ashton-under-Lyne and are available Monday to Thursday 7:30am - 5:00pm and Friday 7:30am - 3:30pm. An answer phone service is available out of office hours.
