Supply Teacher Person Specification

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The following areas are relevant to all schools, although some aspects will need to be interpreted differently according to the key stage, size and type of school. As no two schools are the same, some flexibility is expected in a TESSA Supply Teacher.

Experience

  • Recent teaching experience in a school or evidence of recent completion of initial teacher training
    • Relevant age range
    • School context
  • Evidence of participation in professional development or study
  • Knowledge of relevant Key Stages and National Curriculum requirements

Knowledge and understanding

  • Theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children (e.g. classroom organisation and learning strategies)
  • Understands and values the processes of planning as an aid to raising standards
  • The statutory requirements of legislation concerning Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEN and Child Protection
  • Good understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection methods and responsibilities
