And primary children are hot on their heels

Youngsters from nine Tameside primary schools are getting set to compete in the Manchester mini-games.

Teams from Tameside, Trafford, Stockport, Oldham and Manchester will battle it out for the title of Manchester Champions next month at Trinity High School in Hulme.

Team Tameside features the cream of Tameside’s sporting talent, with the nine schools having beat off stiff competition in various inter- school competitions to make it to the finals of the mini games.

They will compete in a variety of sports including: athletics, basketball, netball, rugby, hockey, tennis and gymnastics.

The aim of the day, on Wednesday 11 July, is to promote physical activity, encourage young people to join sports clubs, increase participation and promote fair play with each sport having a fair play award.

The team will also have 2 disability sports teams from Oakdale School and Hawthorns competing in tag rugby and athletics.
