Contaminated Land Strategy
Primarily as a result of the long industrial heritage of Tameside Borough, in common with other areas of the country, certain areas of land will need investigation and remediation to make it suitable for its intended use.
Since April 2000 local authorities in England have had the responsibility under the contaminated land regime to address statutory contaminated land in their respective areas. The first stage of the process is to formulate a written strategy of how, it is intended to address contaminated land issues in Tameside Borough.
The Contaminated Land Strategy outlines how Tameside MBC proposes to fulfil its responsibility to deal with contaminated land by:
- Liaising and communicating appropriately with the public and industry.
- Ensuring that appropriate systems are in place to implement the strategy.
- Acquiring appropriate information relating to the environment and contamination.
- Identifying contaminated land in Tameside MBC.
- Ensuring that the most serious problems are dealt with first.
- Setting realistic objectives and time scales.
