Carbon Reduction
and Energy Efficiency
Tameside Council’s Commitment to 10:10
10:10 is an ambitious project to unite every sector of British society behind one simple idea: that by working together we can achieve a 10% cut in the UK’s carbon emissions in 2010.
Toasty Tameside Campaign
Tameside MBC is working with the Energy Saving Trust to make homes across the area warm and toasty. The Toasty Tameside scheme is now offering free cavity wall and loft insulation to all Tameside residents (subject to survey). This can save you up to £250 per year so there has never been a better time to get this done! For more information click on the link above.
Warm Home Discount
The Warm Home Discount scheme is a new £120 rebate that certain customers can get off their electricity bills to try to tackle increasing energy costs for vulnerable customers.
Low Carbon Tameside Strategy and Action Plan
The Low Carbon Tameside Strategy and Action Plan have been created by the Tameside Strategic Partnership (TSP) to achieve a sustainable use of natural resources in Tameside. The launch of the Strategy follows the Partnership's agreement to sign up to the National 10:10 campaign to reduce our emissions by 10% during 2010/11.
Greenhouse Gas Report
As part of Tameside MBC's commitment to sharing information on greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change, we have published our footprint report for the period 2008/09 - 2010/11.
Kill the Chill Campaign
Kill the Chill is a campaign we are running which aims to raise awareness of the importance of staying warm in the winter. It also aims to provide people with as much advice and support as possible by holding events across the borough where we will be giving out advice and information which can help people who may be struggling to keep their home warm this winter.
Other Ways to Save Energy and Money in the Home
There are many simple ways we can all save energy and therefore reduce costs in the home. To find out more simply follow the link above.
Water Conservation
Water is a precious resource that is often taken for granted. We use it in our homes, our gardens and in our workplaces and it makes sense to use it carefully.
Renewable Technologies
Why not use the power of the sun, wind, wood, water, air or ground to generate your own energy? Installing renewable energy technologies such as solar panels, and ground source heat pumps to your property offers an alternative to fossil fuels and can also reduce your homes CO2 emissions and save you money. There are now cash back schemes available that make installing renewable technologies to your home a more viable option.
Tameside Energy Guide for Consumers
Tameside energy guide gives basic information about help available in Tameside with fuel bills and energy efficiency improvements. It gives telephone numbers and websites for how to find out more information, apply for grants and get advice.
