The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The European Regional Development Fund
The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) was set up in 1975 to stimulate economic development in the least prosperous regions of the European Union (EU). It is one of the major tools used within the European Union to bring about co-hesion between regions by stimulating and encouraging economic growth through a variety of measures.
The recent Objective 2 Programme (2000-2006) saw £500,000,000 of ERDF support come to the North West. Projects which benefitted from ERDF support in Tameside include:
- Ashton Moss
- Droylsden Canalside Quarter
- St Petersfield
- Ashton Market Hall
Large amounts of ERDF have also funded the regeneration programmes in Ashton and Hattersley over the last 10 years.
The new ERDF ‘Competitiveness and Employment Programme’ will see more ERDF come to the North West of England. The new ERDF programme is managed by the North West Development Agency (NWDA) and more iniformation can be found here: www.erdfnw.co.uk![]()
