Outrage

Photo of OutrageLocal band Outrage make their Splendid Weekend debut.

2009 witnessed a truly special Sunday jam. Brothers Louis aka "Scoops" and Chez Davis, a drummer and guitarist/singer songwriter respectively, literally bumped into a true rarity - a female singer guitarist who had the same influences and could actually play, and boy could she play! Such was the natural electricity between the three, Stevie Shepperson moved herself lock, stock and barrel to make Outrage a household name.

The trio locked themselves away recording for ten weeks and recruited two more like minded players, Brad Whittaker (bass) and Paul Woolliscroft (Rythmn Guitar).

Outrage launched their sounds to the World via a live radio show on Friday July 17th. That same weekend a successful gig at Manchester Academy and Myspace launch has seen them on their way.

Outrage will launch new songs, photos, interviews and gig dates throughout the summer holidays. If you want to help promote Outrage via your own street team or simply want to know more contact them via the message feature on Myspace:-

 The Public

Photo of The PublicThe Public are a band of brothers and friends from the Hyde area of Greater Manchester, who have been playing the music scene for the last 5 years. Previous to that they have been in various different bands and have an overall musical experience of some good 25 years combined. Their musical style is based on various influences but their main output is that of a pop-indie style. The line up is; Sam Davies-Jones on vocals and guitar, Ben Jones provides the drum/rhythm section with backing vocals, Christopher Roach is the Bassist and Axel Davies is the main guitarist.

The band have a love of playing live venues and have a friendly and approachable attitude with a professional outlook on all that they do, be it business or pleasure. They have recently cut their first demo disc entitled ‘Empty Modern Buildings’, been booked for many venues in the Manchester city centre music scene and intend to go wherever life takes them.

Lucy Pickford

Photo of Lucy PickfordThe 2009 Tameside Schools Xfactor Competition, the first of its kind in the country, promised to be the highlight of Tameside’s 2009 event calendar. It was a night to remember with all 16 Finalists making every effort to impress the celebrity judges in their bid for the ultimate prize, the chance to record a single at MCC studios.

Schools across the borough took part in the competition. The final 16 all performed exceptionally at the Willows Club in Salford and the judges took over 15 minutes to make a decision of which acts should go through to the final five. Amber Lane McIvor, Josie Taylor, Carragh Hilton, Tara Allen and Lucy Pickford all made the cut with some judges still fighting the corner for their favourite acts that didn’t quite make it. After the second round of performances, it was clear the prize would fall to gritty young rocker, 15 year old Lucy Pickford from St Thomas More School in Denton. “I’m thrilled Lucy has won it for our school, she has done brilliantly” said a very proud Mr Broadhead, Head of Lucy’s year.

Amber Lane McIvor and Tara Allen, a close second and third respectively, were shocked to find the Managing Director of MCC Global Entertainments had offered to put them in touch with a top producer to work on their song and pay for it to be recorded at MCC Studios in Mottram. Both girls performed to the best of their ability and really showed the 600 strong audience how much talent we had in the competition.

Lucy will now go on to record her own single which will be played on Tameside Radio and she will perform at various Tameside Radio roadshows and the Splendid Weekend ‘Party in The Park’ event.

The 2010 Xfactor competition will begin from the new winter term across all Tameside Schools. For your chance to be a part of this amazing opportunity, speak to your music teacher to find out when the Academy is coming to your school. Please see www.tamesidemusicacademy.org/news.aspx
