Access Protection Markings

picture of access protection markingTameside MBC can provide access protection markings across drop crossings, which may help to prevent vehicles parking across private driveways and pedestrian crossings. This type of marking is funding through the relevant District Assembly.

White H protection markings are only introduced on the carriageway where the blocking of drives occurs on a regular basis by drivers other than residents, visiting for example some form of retail outlet (corner shop, off licence etc.), a leisure facility, school and so on.  This marking can also be introduced across resident's driveways who hold a valid blue badge with more than six months remaining.  All other requests that do not meet this criteria will be refused.

Driveway obstruction in residential areas is in the main caused by residents / neighbours who are fully aware that the driveway/footway crossing area is in use. Consequently, the provision of a white 'H' marking would be unlikely to have any marked effect on the behaviour of such drivers.

This marking comprises of an elongated "H" marking on the carriageway.  Its function is to alert drivers to the fact that there is a private access at that point which must be kept clear.

Before an access protection marking can be undertaken, the property owner must have an approved dropped crossing and hard standing where their vehicle is parked.

This type of road marking is not enforceable but does serve to highlight that any vehicle parking there is creating an obstruction - which can be dealt with by the police.

For further help, contact your local community Police Constable in order that the offending car owners can be advised of the error of their ways and that further obstructions may lead to a charge of obstruction and subsequent prosecution. You should contact your local Community Police Constable by telephoning 0161 872 5050.

Alternatively, if you wish to request an access protection marking please see the contact information below.
