Obstructive Parking

Whilst we fully understand the concerns of obstructive parking, it is impossible for the Council to resolve problems created by 'anti-social parking', most of which results from the practice of garaging vehicles on the public highway due to the shortage/lack of any off-street parking facilities within the cartilage of a property.

The problems this causes are all too common on residential roads, not only in this borough but in towns the length and breadth of this Country, creating difficulties for emergency services, refuse freighters, buses and many other larger type delivery vehicles.

The Council is only able to install white 'H' markings on the carriageway where the blocking of drives occurs on a regular basis as a result of some retail outlet, e.g. corner shop, off licence, leisure facility etc and where a driver may be aware or careless in considering the parking location due to the short time they expect to be away from their vehicle.

Driveway obstruction in residential areas is in the main blatant as residents / neighbours are fully aware that the driveway/footway crossing is in use and if we, as a department, were to embark on marking these driveways the task would be endless.
