General Parking Rules

  • No-one has a right to park on the public highway.

  • The storage of your vehicle is your own private responsibility.

  • Buying a tax disc does not give you the right to park.

  • No-one has any special claim to the kerbside space outside of their house.

  • Where parked cars or vehicles loading and unloading obstruct other traffic, we will introduce waiting or loading restrictions. These take the form of yellow lines, kerb markings and signs showing the extent of the restrictions.

  • The lines apply to the pavement and verge as well as the road. Motorists using hazard-warning lights when parking on yellow lines are not exempt from prosecution.

  • Kerb side parking is controlled in a variety of ways across the town.

  • Drivers must look out for parking restrictions and obey the regulations.

  • Just because there are no yellow lines, it does not mean that there is a right to park.

  • When you park your vehicle you must make sure that you are not causing an obstruction to other road users. Keep driveways and pedestrian dropped kerbs clear.

  • Do not park on or near junctions.
