The Garden of Tranquility in Hyde Park officially opened on Saturday 20th July 2005. It was created by local garden designer Mel Chantrey as a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy, reflect on life, and remember loved ones.

Local Studies and Archives Centre Moves to New Home
The Local Studies and Archives Centre has moved into new purpose-built premises in Ashton-under-Lyne following the completion of this £1million project. For the first time, all the archival materials are stories on one site in state-of-the-art environmentally controlled conditions.
Bookstart Initiative in Tameside
Bookstart is a national scheme run by Tameside Libraries to encourage parents and carers to share books with babies. Every 8-month old baby receives a pack containing 2 books, information for parents/carers, a library joining form, and rhyme cards. Activity sessions are run on a regular basis at libraries around Tameside.
State-of-the-art bus station opens its doors to Hyde
A plaque commemorating thefinish of work at Hyde's new multi-million pound bus station was unveiled by Cllr Alan Whitehead - Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority spokesperson for Tameside - and the Leader of Tameside Council, Cllr Roy Oldham, and the Chair of Hyde District Assembly, Cllr John Sullivan, as they took a first look at the state-of-the-art bus station.
Save Our Metrolink
Tameside Council has joined forces with the local press to launch a campaign to bring the Phase 3 Metrolink plans back on track. The move is geared to ensuring the proposed extension, which goes through Droylsden to Ashton, doesn't hit the buffers permanently and is re-introduced by the government
Fire at Ashton Market Hall
Ashton-under-Lyne's listed Victorian market hall was devastated by fire in May 2004. The video clips include the aftermath of the building together with interviews with the Markets Manager, the Police and Fire Brigade and the reaction of local shoppers.
