The Patient Information Service based at Tameside Hospital provides Health and Social Care information to patients and carers.

Karen Eato - Patient Information Manager
My name's Karen Eato, and I'm the Patient Information Manager here at the Patient Information Centre. The Centre's based at Tameside Hospital and is a joint project between both the hospital and Tameside Library's Service Units.
The idea behind the service is that we provide patients and their carers whether they're in the hospital or in the community, with health information, social care information, and council information at a level that suits them. And it could be that English isn't necessarily their first language, or that they can't see to read so we try to provide the information in other languages and also in tape. To that extent we have a little library where people can actually borrow materials whether it be books, audio cassettes or videos. They can take it away for two weeks.
We also have three internet enabled computers where we can find information from UK accredited health and information sites, and we can either email the information to the person or give it to the person if they come into the centre, or we can post it out to them whichever suits them best.
