An introduction on how the SMART Board Notebook is changing the way children learn, as well as offering information on classroom based training for teachers.

Text Only Version

The scope for teaching with the SMART Board I now realise and I didn't before, is absolutely amazing. It's actually making my teaching so much easier.

Daniel Fyles - Primary ICT Consultant, Tameside LEA

Hands on Support is really exciting. IT, classroom based training for Tameside teachers. As you can see from the little animation here, we've got a little diagram that shows us the structure of the training. So you've got this first half day out of the classroom where the consultant shows the teacher some web resources and paper resources. Then you've got an optional half day of software training, and four further half days in the classroom working with the teacher and their class. Teachers love the Hands on Support training.

Rachel Twinn - St George's Primary, Hyde

All the training has taken place at school during the day, I've had time out from the children and I've sat with Daniel and we've worked with the laptop going through the different tools of the SMART Board.

It's been tailored towards the needs of me and my class. It's been very individualised like that so it's not like going to a training session where there's input through reception through to year 6, it's been very much focused on my class and my needs where I'm at.

Rachel Twinn - St George's Primary, Hyde

The children are more interactive, they find it very interesting, the fact that it's in colour, there are videos, they can hear what's being spoken to them and they can actually manipulate the board. They find it much more fun than just a normal chalk board definately.

Daniel's given me lots of guidance and advice which has been very supportive and I can email him if I've got any worries, he's been a brilliant mentor.

We've recently had an Ofsted inspection and I cannot tell you how much it helped. The lessons were already prepared in advance so there was no chance of forgetting anything that major. There was no worrying about that becuase it was all on slides, prepared and ready. It took a lot of the tension of Ofsted away. I realise how lucky I am, I would definately recommend him.

Teachers are usually very glad they took part in Hands on Support, they feel like it's tailored for their needs. This is the sorts of things they say, they say things like "I don't feel scared of the computer now" they say "I'm really glad I took part in this training". Best of all, every teacher would like to hear this, the board has saved them time when planning.

So Hands on Support by supporting teaching in Tameside schools, we're literally transforming their learning.

Marie Martins - St Stephen's Primary, Droylsden

It's been incredibly helpful to me, I'm really excited about it!
