Saint George's Day Celebrations
Text Version
Town Crier
“Oh yea oh yea oh yea. It is today my honourable duty as the Town Crier of Tameside to make the following proclamation. The Rose of England we proudly wear, Jerusalem the anthem we sing, the Standard of Saint George is our flag, on Saint George’s Day bells will ring. One thousand years of history must never fade away, our land of hope and glory celebrates Saint George’s Day. So for England and Saint George the test of time you’ve seen, God bless you all my countrymen and may God save the Queen”.
Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Jack Davis
“Members of the Council, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, good afternoon everybody. On behalf of Tameside Council it is my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Saint George’s Day celebrations. It’s great to see so many of you here and I hope you’ve enjoyed the colourful parade through the town centre led by the Dragon Heartbeats and the Adamson Military Band. Our wonderful day of entertainment and activity will shortly continue in the square with dramatic live music, street theatre and dance with performances by The Adamson Military Band, Stockport Morris Men, Manchester Camerata Brass Ensemble and The Dragon Heartbeats. Tameside Council is extremely proud to recognise our national Patron Saint and to support the national campaign to make Saint George’s Day a public holiday in England. This is the seventh year the Council’s publicly celebrated Saint George’s Day and we will continue to do so for many years to come.”
