Adoption is seen as a high priority service in Tameside and is an integral part of care planning for children. Tameside's Adoption Service is provided by one team of social workers who are experienced and skilled in children and families social work as well as adoption. This enables a sharing of ideas and a unity of purpose, which benefits all involved in the adoption process. In many authorities there is a split between the tasks of recruiting and assessing adopters and the placing of children for adoption. Adoption is about meeting the needs of children not meeting the needs of adults who wish to adopt.
