(for free Realplayer download).The Visual Impairment Service is for anyone living in Tameside, their families and carers, who experience problems with everyday activities due to significant sight loss. You do not need to be registered blind or partially sighted to use the service.
The service consists of a team of staff including rehabilitation workers and assistants, low vision worker and a counsellor and hospital support worker.
The team covers all of Tameside and aims to offer a comprehensive service that enables and promotes independence.
Services provided are:
- Counselling Service - To assist with adjustment and other issues relating to vision loss.
- Deafblind Services - Information for people with hearing and sight loss who may have difficulty communicating, getting out and about and accessing information on their own.
- Low Vision - To help you find the right magnifier to suit your needs.
- Travel Services
- Vision First Resource Centre - The Centre is part of the Visual Impairment Service and aims to help people with a visual impairment to retain or regain their independence and to learn new skills and adapt existing ones.
