Resettlement and Aftercare Programme (RAP)

Resettlement and Aftercare Programme (RAP)

Tameside Youth Offending Team

What is the Resettlement and Aftercare Programme (RAP)

Resettlement and Aftercare Provision (RAP) programme provides unprecedented levels of support to vulnerable children and young people leaving custody.

It is a programme devised to help young people develop at positive future and provides Post custody support for young people.

By offering intensive, practical help and support, RAP offers these young people the stability they need to make a fresh start and stay out of trouble.

Our Aim is to:

  • Provide ongoing support for young people in prison or on licence
  • Provide support and help with employment and housing issues
  • Help young people to reach their goals and escape the re-offending cycle.

What does RAP Involve?

Elements of the programme - to be delivered by youth offending teams and their partners - will include:

  • Accommodation support to access and maintain appropriate accommodation in both the short and long term
  • Develop better use of leisure time by identifying, accessing and participating in positive leisure pursuits
  • Support access to early intervention, treatment and crisis support services to address substance misuse, health and mental health needs;
  • Work with parents, carers, families and peers. Develop life skills, budget management, healthy living, diet, and improve self- esteem and confidence to make positive decisions.
  • Support accessing education, training and employment

How you could help us?

You could become a consultant for the Youth Offending Team.

Some of the things you could do are:

  • Help to make the Youth Offending Team better for other young people
  • Give us advice on activities that might stop young people re-offending.
  • Help us to train volunteers for panel meetings
  • Interview new Youth Offending Team staff.
  • Encourage others not to offend

If you are interested in working with the RAP team please discuss this with your Case Manager or YOT Worker. Alternatively ring the YOT Office and leave a message for one of the RAP Workers.
