12 Days of Christmas

Craft activities and silhouettes linked to the 12 Days of Christmas are available at the bottom of this page.

From the 1 December 2020 we will be bringing ‘12 Days of Christmas’ celebrations to Tameside. Among the celebrations, there will be a ‘partridge in a pear tree’ in Hyde and ‘swans a swimming’ in Stalybridge. We will be pre-filming our work with a video released on our social media channels every day meaning you can enjoy the celebrations from the safety of your home.

The whole twelve days will be edited into a video celebrating Christmas and the resilience and creativity of Tameside residents.

Each of the Boroughs towns will link in a line of the song from the 12 Days of Christmas song as below and something unique will happen relating to the line of the song in that town.  We will be working with each town in different ways, from working with schools in one and sheltered accommodation residents in another. All groups involved in the video are confirmed; however, there are still plenty of ways you can get involved.

The town themes are:

Ashton-Under-Lyne – 2 Turtle Doves
Audenshaw – 10 Lords-A-Leaping
Denton – 4 Calling Birds
Droylsden -6 Geese-A-Laying
Dukinfield – 3 French Hens
Hyde - A partridge in a Pear Tree
Longdendale – 5 Gold Rings
Mossley – 11 Pipers Pipping
Stalybridge – 7 Swans-A-Swimming

Residents can get involved in many ways. We have published templates and ideas for window silhouettes and posted craft activities for the whole family to enjoy linking to the 12 Days of Christmas. All of the templates are available at the bottom of the webpage.

Dressing your window
Residents, schools and businesses in the area are invited to decorate their windows in the theme of their town or in the ‘12 Days of Christmas’ theme.

To help you create your displays we have shared templates linked to the ‘12 Days of Christmas’ song. These templates can be printed and cut out to create a silhouette on your window.

We have also shared craft activities linked to the song. These easy crafts can be added to your window display if you’ve decided to do a 12 Days theme.

If you decorate your window we’d love to see it. Please share your pictures with us by tagging @tmbc_culture on Twitter or @TamesideLibraries on Facebook or use the hashtag #TamesideChristmas

Video responses
If you would like to create a video response to your towns theme we’d love to see it, maybe if you lived in Stalybridge you could create a swan lake inspired dance piece or in Longdendale you could display 5 gold rings in your window.

Please share any video responses with us by tagging @tmbc_culture on Twitter or @TamesideLibraries on Facebook so we can share them.

If you need any more information to aid your response to the 12 Days of Christmas please email events@tameside.gov.uk
