New Exhibitions at Market Gallery

Press Release: 01/09/2021

Julie RedfernGOOD art and good causes combine in the latest exhibitions at Ashton Market Hall’s Market Gallery.

Tameside artists Julie Redfern and Kevin Williams both use their considerable talents to generate funds for charities that are close to their heart. In Kevin’s case it’s Macmillan Cancer Support while Julie donates to the Woodland Trust.

Kevin’s exhibition – “Paintings for Macmillan – is inspired by the fantastic support his late wife, Hedy, received from the Macmillan nurses at Tameside Hospital. As a means of giving something back to them, to help them continue their invaluable work, the Hyde-based artist gives the charity all proceeds from the sale of his prints.

The exhibition, which is Kevin’s first, has been created over a number of years and mostly comprises landscapes and local scenes.

“Watercolour Walks” by Julie Redfern is inspired by the landscapes she sees while on long hikes or cycle rides, and particularly by the Pennines which she loves so much.

The paintings, which are created from memory, focus on the atmosphere of a landscape rather than on particular details.

Julie, from Dukinfield, is donating 10 per cent from her sales to the Woodland Trust to help create, preserve and protect the UK’s native woodland.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member with responsibility for culture, said: “In Tameside we are very fortunate that we live so close to some stunning landscapes. These are captured are incredibly well by Kevin and Julie, each in their own individual and special style.

“If you’re in Ashton, perhaps to do some shopping, it’s well worth stepping away from the hustle and bustle for a while to visit the Market Gallery and enjoy these impressive paintings.”

You can see the two exhibitions at The Market Gallery (stalls 62 and 63 in Ashton Market Hall) during normal opening hours.
