Tameside Readers' and Writers' Festival

Press Release: 22/10/2019

YOU don’t need to read between the lines to appreciate the quality of writers, poets and playwrights who have been lined up for “Read Here, Write Now”, the Tameside Readers’ and Writers’ Festival.

Throughout November, running alongside the Tameside Loves Reading campaign, Tameside libraries will be hosting a series of free meet-the-author sessions, workshops and discussions giving residents the chance not only to learn about books and the people who wrote them but also to hone their own skills and find out how to get work published.

Among the speakers are Andrew Hurley, whose work “The Loney” won the 2016 British Book Industry Award for Debut Novel and Book of the Year; and Linda Brogan, who is a multi award-winning playwright and resident at the National Theatre.

Other authors include Anita Waller, a writer of psychological thrillers; Martin Edwards, who has been nominated for the eDunnit Award; Patricia Dixon, who has written eight best-selling novels and Brent Shore who was born in Hyde.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “They say there’s a novel in all of us and I know Tameside has many people who enjoy writing and would love to have their work published. The readers’ and writers’ festival provides them with a rare chance to learn from the masters.
“I’m also extremely pleased that there are some children’s events and especially the poetry and creative writing sessions for five to 11-year-olds. Writing is one of the most potent means of expression and I am keen to see that power shared among as many of our residents as possible.”

The full list of events can be found in a mustard-coloured leaflet available in Tameside libraries and at www.tameside.gov.uk/LibrariesandLeisure/Libraries/events/ReadWrite
