Interactive careers and apprenticeships exhibition returns to Tameside

Press Release: 12/06/2018

PUPILS from years 9 and 10 are getting the chance to learn about their potential professions at the biggest careers exhibition in Tameside.

The annual Tameside Careers and Apprenticeships Exhibition (TCAE) at Stalybridge Civic Hall will feature engaging interactive activities for pupils, from businesses in a variety of industries alongside local and neighbouring training providers. Stall holders have designed their activities to make them interesting to young people who wouldn’t have previously considered a career in their industry.

Over 1,000 young people from 12 secondary schools across the borough have been invited to attend the exhibition, which has a number of sessions throughout the day on Thursday June 21st.

TCAE has been designed to support schools in delivering effective careers information, advice and guidance to pupils.

The 2018 event has been sponsored by Tameside Council, Ashton Sixth Form College, Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College.  The partnership of Tameside Council and Tameside’s leading providers of further education is a joint commitment to bringing the best experience to local pupils at the event.

There will be up to 45 stands from industries including protective services, engineering, animal welfare, digital/media, education, music technology and catering. Stands will be held by Greater Manchester Police, Brother UK, Haywill Animal Rescue, Purple Wi-Fi, Affinity Media and other local organisations.

The exhibition allows pupils to engage with various businesses and learning providers to discuss their future education and career pathways.

Pupils attending will be able to try on police riot gear with Greater Manchester Police, engage in virtual reality simulations with the Royal Army, film a highlights reel with Affinity Media, and have a go at block paving with TMBC engineering along with many other activities.

Cllr. Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning, Skills and Employment, said: “It’s vital for young people to be aware of the range of opportunities available to them when they leave school, so they can make informed decisions on their future. I’m delighted to welcome back Tameside Careers and Apprenticeships Exhibition, as it’s an excellent event where pupils get some hands-on experience and can meet representatives from local businesses.

“Pupils attending will discover there’s a wealth of industries and exciting careers available to them here in Tameside.”

Coverage of the event will be taking place throughout the day on social media using #TCAE2018. Students, schools and exhibitors are encouraged to take part in promoting this exhibition.
