Tameside Christmas Market 2017 dates announced

Press Release: 26/09/2017

IT’S that time of year again to look forward to mulled wine, festive shopping and free fairground rides with the dates for Tameside Christmas Market 2017 being announced.

The Christmas market will take place in the Market Street area of Ashton - behind Ashton Market Hall - from Friday to Sunday over the weekends of 24-26 November, 1-3 December and 8-10 December.

The borough-wide community event will build on previous years’ success to offer over 20 traditional cabin stalls selling handmade crafts and gifts as well as delicious festive food and drinks.

There will also be a Santa’s grotto, raising money for local charities, and free rides with a different attraction every weekend including donkey rides, a ferris wheel, a carousel and a helter skelter.

New for this year will be opportunity to enjoy breakfast with Santa, which along with the welcome elves and children’s characters should make for some memorable photo opportunities.

Visitors will also be able to relax in a covered refreshments area while enjoying music from local brass bands and popular local performers.

Tameside Council Executive Deputy Leader Cllr John Taylor, who is responsible for markets, said: “Tameside Christmas Market continues to grow in popularity, each year we get more and more positive feedback from visitors and traders and we work hard to build on this to make sure we organise an event that everyone can enjoy and benefit from.

“It will complement the many vibrant shops and market stalls already on offer, helping to support local traders and boost business while providing an enjoyable family event for everyone across the borough.”

Tameside Christmas Market will form part of five weekends of festive fun including the spectacular Tameside Lantern Parade on 18 November and Ashton Christmas Farmers’ Market on Sunday 17 December, which will offer free land train rides.

Tameside Council is working with town teams and partners and to support Christmas light switch ons and other festive events across the borough. Further details of these will be announced soon.
