Current Local Plan policies

The Local Plan isn't one document. The policies and plans below make up the current Local Plan. Some of these are still in the process of being developed.
 When a plan is adopted, it doesn't mean the land outlined in the plan will definitely be built on. In most cases, developers will still need to apply for planning permission and have their applications considered on an individual basis.
 

Adopted plans

• Places for Everyone plan - a long-term strategic scale plan for new jobs, homes, and sustainable growth. It provides housing and employment land targets and a revised boundary for Tameside’s Green Belt.
• Unitary Development Plan - this is the lead document of the Tameside Local Plan. It provides an overview of our objectives for the whole of the borough.
• Greater Manchester Joint Waste Development Plan - a plan for new waste management facilities.
• Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Development Plan - identifies new mineral extraction sites and lists current mineral assets that need to be protected.
• Maps for the Local Plan – each of the above plans has an accompanying policies map. For ease these are shown in one interactive map.

Plans in progress

• Homes, Spaces, Places - a plan which outlines further detail beyond Places for Everyone, protects areas of land for certain uses and identifies other areas which can be used for new development in the borough.
• Neighbourhood plans - any community in the borough can get together to create a neighbourhood plan which details an idea or a group of ideas for an area. Neighbourhood plans become part of the local plan if they're adopted.
