The Tameside Domestic Abuse Partnership Board is pleased to publish its’ 5 year domestic abuse strategy, which has been developed in partnership with local victim-survivors of domestic abuse and professionals across the public and third sector.

The rate of domestic abuse in Tameside is higher than all three of our statistical neighbours; this strategy outlines how we hope to transform our response to domestic abuse across our priority areas and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for local victim-survivors of domestic abuse. We will do this by:
  • Making domestic abuse everybody’s business
  • Creating safe spaces for disclosures
  • Meeting the needs of victims through local services
  • Helping victim-survivors stay safe at home
  • Better outcomes for children impacted by domestic abuse
  • Identifying problem behaviours early
  • Holding perpetrators accountable

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 places a statutory obligation on local authorities to provide support in safe accommodation for victim-survivors and their children, and to publish a strategy outlining how we intend to meet these duties. In this strategy we outline our 3-tiered approach to the new duties to provide support in safe accommodation for victim-survivors of domestic abuse and their children:
  1.  Better support victim-survivors to stay in their own homes with support and safety measures in place
  2.  Improve outcomes for those who approach our homelessness service as victims of domestic abuse
  3.  Strengthen and diversify our offer for those who require specialist domestic abuse accommodation

A draft of the Tameside Safe Accommodation Strategy is included as an appendix in the Domestic Abuse Strategy 2021-2026. The Tameside Support in Safe Accommodation Strategy 2021-2023 will be take full effect in January 2022 as per government regulations.
