Ordering documents in advance

Local Studies & Archive Centre reopens on the 13 April 2021

We will be opening our doors to the public again on the 13 April 2021. We are very excited to welcome everyone back to the centre. The changes implemented last year for the safety of staff and customers remain in place, so if you wish to visit us, please read the following guidance carefully:

  • You must book in advance by email (localstudies.library@tameside.gov.uk). You will need to let us know whether you require use of the computers, the microfilm reader, or research space, as we have limited slots available for each.
  • Only 10 users will be allowed in the building at a time, and every person visiting will need to book separately.
  • Upon arrival, you will be invited to provide contact details for the purposes of track and trace. This information will be kept for 21 days, you can find more information and read our privacy notice here
  • If you wish to use archival material, microfilm, or specific books, you will need to let us know when you book which material you wish to see.
  • If you are likely to require print-outs or copying, please bring exact change where possible to minimise the need for cash-handling.
  • We will be operating a one-way system. You will enter via the Oldham Road entrance, and exit through our Cotton Street car park.
  • As per government guidelines, you must wear a face covering whilst in the Centre, unless unable to do so for medical reasons. You will need to provide your own face covering.
  • Please adhere to social distancing, and maintain a distance of 2 metres from other users wherever possible.
  • A hand sanitising station will be available at both the entrance and exit of the Centre, and you are encouraged to use these.
  • For the safety of all users, we request that you bring your own pencil and paper if you require them, so that items will not be shared between users.
  • If you are unwell, or exhibiting any possible symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the Centre. We will of course be happy to rearrange any bookings that are missed.
  • Finally, we remain keen to record your experiences of how life has changed this year, due to COVID-19 and the various adjustments that have been made in response. If you would be interested in contributing, you can find details of how you can get involved here

We would like to thank you for your patience whilst the service has been closed, and look forward to welcoming you again soon.
