Code of Burial Practice
At Tameside Cemeteries we recognise the importance of the service provided and guarantee that all procedures are performed in accordance with statutory regulations.
Cemetery staff
When appointing cemetery staff, great care is taken and preference is always given to applicants with experience in the profession that is second to none.
Conduct
The burial of a human body is a highly emotional occasion for everyone and staff at Tameside Cemeteries never forget this, creating and maintaining an atmosphere of reverence and respect throughout.
Correct identity
Every care is taken to ensure correct identification throughout, from the moment the coffin is received until the final interment within the grave.
After committal
- A body is never removed from the cemetery after the Service of Committal except for a lawful purpose.
- On the day of the committal service as long as the necessary authority to inter has been received, the coffin and the deceased are place into the grave exactly as received.
- Once a coffin containing the deceased has been placed within the grave, it will not be touched.
- The grave will be refilled with soil immediately following the departure of a ll mourners. It will be left neat and tidy with wreaths and flowers carefully placed on it by the cemetery staff.
Mechanical apparatus
All mechanical apparatus used in the cemetery is regularly overhauled, cleaned and kept in good repair to ensure perfect working order.
Statutory regulations
All burials are carried out according to the regulations made under the provisions of all Burial acts and under the appropriate statutory provisions and regulations applicable to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. No burial can take place without the consent of the Bereavement Services Manager
